A Statement of Attainment. Selected unit "Demonstrate Knowledge of Firearms Legislation, Firearms and Community Safety" (SROFAS001A) plus a unit for the relevant firearms category. A Statement of Attendance.

You must obtain written permission from Tasmania Police to enrol. Contact us for more details about prerequisite study and clothing.

Tasmania Police will forward a list of course dates and venues to applicants as soon as your licence application is approved.

This course will assist participants to meet the requirements for a firearm licence in Tasmania. These training requirements are consistent with the minimum national standards for the granting of firearm licences Australia wide.

Participants will learn:

  • To fire rifles and shotguns under supervision, on a police approved firing range.
  • Via attending presentations and demonstrations on using firearms safely and understanding firearms.
  • Practical skills and theoretical knowledge which will be assessed during the course.

Cost: Varies according to the category of firearms licence approved by Tasmania Police. Basic Law and Safety (must be completed for all licence categories): $125
Category A/B/H1: $125   
Category C or D: $135
