Outcome

A Statement of Attainment. Selected unit “Encapsulate and Remove Asbestos” (CPCCDE3002A). A Skills Institute Competency Card.

Prerequisites

You must have a White Card - selected unit “Work Safely in the Construction Industry” (CPCCOHS1001A). You must wear workshop clothing and safety shoes/boots. Disposable overalls provided.

Location

At your work site or at the Clarence, Alanvale and Burnie training facilities.

Cost

$640 per person.

This course enables participants to develop the skills and knowledge required to safely remove, encapsulate and dispose of asbestos products whilst adhering to regulations and procedures for air monitoring plus personal and site decontamination as described in the National Occupational Health and Safety Commission Code of Practice (2002). Successful participants will be able to apply for an Asbestos Removalist’s Licence through the state regulator.

Assessment will include construction of a practical simulation of an asbestos removal enclosure and a written assignment regarding asbestos removal plans.

Participants will learn:

  • To plan and prepare for asbestos removal.
  • To prepare the asbestos removal site.
  • To encapsulate the asbestos area.
  • To remove material containing asbestos.
  • To carry out the decontamination process.
  • To clean up.
