After taking out a host of awards around the State, Devonport builder Sam Nancarrow has confirmed his position as one of Tasmania’s most gifted young tradesmen.

Working with JPO Builders, Sam has completed his apprenticeship and is now a qualified builder.

After being nominated by his teacher and boss Jason Overton, Sam was the recent recipient of the Skills Institute’s North-West carpenter gold award, and will compete for the state award in Launceston this week.

Sam will also travel to Sydney in September, as part of a 13-man team, to compete in the national WorldSkills Challenge. The event will pit the country’s best young builders against each other in a series of challenges to find the best of the best.

Despite having unintentionally entered the WorldSkills Challenge, Sam said he was thrilled to have been selected as the Tasmanian recipient and very excited about the upcoming challenge.
