DENTAL ASSISTANT WINS FLYING DOCTOR SCHOLARSHIP

Thursday, 2 February 2012 - 10:09am

Huonville dental nurse Emma Norris recently received an exciting and prestigious scholarship to work with the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) in outback Australia.

Emma, 20, from Huonville is currently completing her traineeship Certificate III in Dental Assisting with the Skills Institute and is employed by Dr Chris Carr from the Huon Valley Dental Centre.

The Scholarship gave Emma the opportunity to work as an assistant to RFDS Dentist Dr Lyn Mayne, based at Broken Hill in New South Wales, flying to a number of outback locations.

After a hectic two-week schedule, Emma had gained a fascinating and rewarding insight into the RFDS and the range of functions and services it performs for people in remote Australian regions.

The Dental Assistant’s Scholarship is sponsored by RFDS Tasmania and the Launceston arm of Zonta International, and has been awarded for the past six years.
