APPRENTICES VIE FOR REGIONAL WORLDSKILLS TITLES

Thursday, 1 December 2011 - 5:54pm

The Skills Institute would like to congratulate apprentices and tradespeople from Tasmania’s North-West, who vied for the regional Worldskills titles in construction steel and sheet metal work in October.

A total of 14 apprentices and tradespeople (eight in construction steel and six in sheet metal) took part in the competition held at TSI’s Valley Rd training facility in Devonport.

The competition required participants to follow plans to manufacture a certain design within a set timeframe. They were judged on a points system by a selected judging panel from industry and TSI. The successful participants will now go on to compete at the world competition.

Special congratulations go to Joshua Pratt, who won first place in the construction steel section, with Phillip De Jong taking second place and Elton Stewart-Murray coming in third place. In the sheet metal division Joshua Boag placed first, Matthew McKay second, and Shaun O’Boyle finished third.
