SKILLED BAKERS SHOW THEIR WARES
Friday, 11 November 2011 - 3:20pm
The 2011 Tasmanian Baking Show (TBS) and awards night were held at the Country Club Casino on Thursday 22 and Friday, 23 September, with over 470 entries submitted for judges to taste test.
Entrants submitted their handiwork on the Thursday morning, with the five judges taking around six hours to record and finalise the results.
The awards presentation was attended by more than 140 guests, an outstanding result for everyone involved. Individuals across numerous categories were recognised for their hard work and commitment over the past year, with competitors given the opportunity to discuss their successes with the judging panel, as well as any areas for improvement.
Skills Institute bakery teacher Benoit Marchand said the organisation encouraged young apprentices to put their skills to the test through events such as the TBS.
“These events help apprentices to develop time management skills and encourage team building and interactive education, as well as the formation of healthy professional relationships and networks,” Mr Marchand said.
“Thanks must go to all who helped make the TBS a successful event yet again, including the volunteers who greeted competitors, weighed, tagged and sorted entries into appropriate categories and just generally ensured the event was a success.”
