SKILLS INSTITUTE DELIVERING FOR TASMANIAN STUDENTS AND EMPLOYERS

A national survey has found 92.5 per cent of Skills Institute graduates in Tasmania fully or partly achieved the main reason for undertaking their training, well above the national average of 85.3 per cent.

The good news comes with figures from the Skills Institute’s 2010-2011 Annual Report, revealing the number of students enrolled at the Institute has increased from 19,718 in 2009 to 24,320 in 2010.

Skills Institute CEO Malcolm White said the findings were encouraging and highlighted the wins the Institute had achieved in the past financial year.

“Further to this, an EMRS survey of employers reported that 92 per cent agreed or strongly agreed that their employees had gained the skills they needed from training with the Skills Institute,” Mr White said.

“These results were achieved in a tight financial year in which the Skills Institute ended the year with a deficit of $327,000 inclusive of capital funding.”

The Skills Institute is a Registered Training Organisation that employs around 380 staff state-wide, delivering in excess of 700 training courses for Tasmanian employers.
